At Easter, 1935, Professor D. had to make a
journey, and asked a priest friend to come and
say Holy Mass in his stead. Afterwards at break-
fast the young priest, whose name was Father
Wasner, said： “ You really sang quite well this
morning, but ．．．” and he explained in a few
words several important things to us, and then
and there at the breakfast table, made us repeat
a motet, conducting it from where he was sitting.
None of us knew then just how lucky we were：
This was the birth of the

1935年のイースターで、D教授は旅行に出なくてはなり
ませんでした．そこで神父である友人に頼んで、来ても
らってミサ聖祭の言上を自分の代わりにしてもらうよう
お願いしました．その若神父の名はワスナー神父で、彼
の言うことには、「あなたがた、今朝は実によく歌われま
したね．でも．．．」そして彼は手短に我々に大切なことを
いくつか説明して下さいました．そして朝食時など、その
時どきに、彼は自分の席に座ったまま指揮棒を振り、モテ
ットを私たちに歌わせるのでした．そのときまだ私たちの
誰ひとりとして、私たちがラッキーだなんて知る由もなか
ったのです：でもこれが
「トラップ・ファミリー・シンガーズ」
の誕生の瞬間だったのです．
