The closer the time came, the less fussy we were. If he
is only healthy with straight arms and leggs, even the
colour of eyes and hair wouldn't matter any more. And
now it was just the same whether it was a boy or a girl.
All the strength of the whole being was concentrated on
the one thing necessary：
“Oh God help, help that this Thy child be born healthy
in body and soul.”

予定日が近づけば近づくほど、私たちは、もう生まれてくる
子には何も注文をつけなくなりました．五体満足でありさえ
すればそれでいい．もう目の色も、髪の色もどうだっていい、
男の子か女の子かについても、今やどっちだって同じこと．
渾身の力でもって、ただひとつの大事なことに精神を集
中させました：
「おお、神様、お授け下さるこの子がどうか心身共に
健康で生まれてきますように、何卒お力添えを下さい．」
