Up went the eyebrows again.
“ My goodness, did you think I was marrying the children ?
What a queer little person you are !”
This decided me. I knew instinctively that I couldn't stay ;
I wouldn't fit in any more. So I repeated stiffly :
“ I have made up my mind. I shall pack and leave
immediately.”
Now the Princess was really worried and after another unsuccessful
attempt to make me change my mind, left me rather hurriedly.
With trembling fingers, I started to empty my drawers.

またもや眉がつり上がりました。
「まあ、あきれた。私が子どもたちと結婚するとでも？
随分可笑しな方ね !」
この言葉が決定打でした。 本能的に私はここにはいられないと
悟りました。もう、ここには私の居場所はありません。 そこで、
私はかたくなに、繰り返し言いました。
「私、決心しましたわ。荷物をまとめて、ここを出て行き
ます。」
そしたら、今度は王女様の方が、心配して、私の気持ちを変えよう
と、あの手この手で言いよってきますが、それがあだで、返って私
は急ぎだしました。震える指でタンスを空にし始めました。
