was the excited question every morning. One morning, when
the answer was
" only seven, "
we came down the stairs as usual, and found the double door
leading into the big drawing-room, which was usually wide open,
closed. New excitement ; that meant that the Holy Child
with His angel assistants was working inside, preparing the room
for Christmas.

「クリスマスまであと何日？」
それが毎朝の、興奮気味のお訪ね言葉です。ある朝、
「もうあと７日だよ。」
という答えを聞いたとき、私たちは、いつものように階段を
下りました。そしたら、客間に続く二重扉が、普段は大きく
開かれているのに、閉まっていました。新たなワクワク気分
です；それは「御子」が天使を伴い、内部でクリスマスの準備
作業をしてるということを意味していたからです。

ただしこの言い方は作者が案出したようでやや不自然。
日本語の語感としては「聖御子」。念のため大きめの
辞書に当たったが記載なし（新英和大辞典）。
